WatsUp TV Africa music video awards voting in progress: Tay Grin representing Malawi

Malawi’s traditional bound Mcee Tay Grin is in the race for honour in the WatsUp TV Africa Music Video Awards (WAMVA) having earned nomination late last week.

The Nyau King claimed his spot on the nominees lists with his visuals for the undisputed anthem, Chipapa, which features Nigerian veteran singer 2baba, formerly known as 2 Face.

Tay Grin’s loyalty to African values has seen him getting nominated in the Best African Traditional Video category. This is the artist’s third nomination this year, with two other nominations in BEFFTA Awards; Best International African Act and Best Video for Chipapapa.

In WAMVA, the Blantyre based artist faces strong challenge from other leading acts from South Africa, Nigeria, Ghana, Uganda and Rwanda. However with full support from Malawians, the uphill climb will be fully catalysed thereby rocketing the representative’s possibility of reaching the top.

The awards ceremony which will be taking place on annual basis, only marked its onset last year. It has 20 categories and it is aimed at providing an opportunity to judge African music videos from a different angle.

The video for Chipapapa remains one of the highly rated in Malawi. It was produced in South Africa by Pilot Films. The video made it into Trace Television African Chart top three.
