The Malawi national football team Under-17 side beat Kenya 2-0 to finish third at the Cosafa U-17 tournament in Mauritius.

Malawi who had earlier beaten Kenya 5-0 when the two teams meet in group stage of the same tournament wasted no time in carving Kenya’s defence with Peter Banda assuming his normal role as the conductor of this harmonised orchestra, as they controlled much of the first half.

However young Harambee Stars who were pinned back in their half and short of ideas managed not to allow any goal, with the first period ending in a stalemate.

Thirteen minutes later after the break, Malawi danger man Peter Banda opened the scoring, with a clinical finish registering his fifth goal of the tournament. Kenya fight back began shortly as new substitute John Njuguna headed in from a corner but missed the target; with two other chances go begging.

Three minutes into the end of the match Francisco Madinga doubled Malawi lead scoring a great solo goal after making a run from the halfway line to score.
