Wizards: Got a rare win

The Lilongwe based side was the first to score through Gilbert Chirwa who found the back of the net in the 13th minute. Wizards equalised in the same first half through Hendrix Misinde.

The coming in of Isaac Mwale in the second half changed the game as Wizards showcased their passing football which made Blue Eagles to panic in the first minutes of the second half.

The cops brought in former Fomboni club Demohe’il striker Wister Phiri for Osward Maonga to increase pressure to the boys but the change yielded no possession as he was played out of the game by the Wizards’ defence.

The Area 30 boys defence went shaky after a miscommunication between their goalkeeper Chakonda Majanga and his defenders which gave a chance to Wizards’ man Hendrix Misinde to get a second goal 13 minutes before the final whistle.

Eagles began pumping balls into the home side’s box but they failed to score and the game ended 2-1.

Wizard’s technical director Peter Mponda praised his boys for the victory and for proceeding into the round of 16, adding that he wished it was a league game,

“We didn’t play as much as we wanted, we have grabbed a result today. I wish this was a league game, but since we fought hard we deserved a victory,” Mponda explained.

On his part team manager for Blue Eagles Gabriel Chirwa said his side failed to utilise the chances that were created hence the loss.

“We accept the defeat, the boys didn’t convert the chances into goals, that’s why when you give a chance to your friend they equalise, that’s what has happened with us,” said Chirwa.
