Police in Kasungu district have arrested a man for murdering his brother whom he suspected of having an affair with his wife.

Kasungu police station public relations officer Edna Mzingwitsa identified the suspect as Aaron Vindevu, 37, and the deceased as Salimu Vindevu.

Mzingwitsa said the suspect heard reports that Salimu was sleeping with his wife and for this reason he planned to ‘deal’ with his brother.

ArrestedOn 29 May this year, the suspect heard that his brother was at Mtunthama where he was drinking beer.

“The suspect followed the deceased and waited for him in a certain bush near Kamuzu Academy, as the deceased was coming back,” Mzingwitsa explained.

Mzingwitsa added that Aaron pounced on Salimu and fighting erupted.

As they were fighting one of the security guards at Kamuzu academy saw them and he managed to stop the fight.

The deceased was heavily injured and was taken to St Andrews Mission Hospital where he was later referred to Kasungu district hospital.

Salimu died on Monday while receiving treatment and a post-mortem showed that the death was due to a head injury (cerebral oedema).

Meanwhile, Aaron who hails from Vindevu village in the area of Traditional Authority Wimbe in Kasungu district is on remand at Matchaya prison waiting for trial to commence.
