The Malawi national football team will mark the genesis of their Cosafa tournament with a game against an under-19 Angola team on 11th June.

The Flames proceeded to Namibia where the regional tournament will be staged having been baptised with fire in Zimbabwe leading to their elimination from the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations contention.

With backing of matured players, the team looks forward to providing the nation with a consolation after giving away their AFCON dream.

Media reports indicate that Angola will make use of the mini tournament for sharpening young talent.

This is because that country’s senior team has been underperforming since taking part in the 2013 African Cup of Nations that was hosted by South Africa.

Flames coach Ernest Mtawali is after restoring the nation’s pride by snatching the trophy from holders Namibia.

His boys therefore have an uphill task to prove a point having lost the nation’s trust due to negative results despite massive support.

Angola have been having the better of Malawi in the past years, recording positive results in every game they have met.

In 2010 the former Portuguese colony inflicted the nation with pain having beaten the Flames by 2-0 in CHAN tournament at Kamuzu Stadium. That was after they won by the same margin during the 2010 AFCON that was held in their country.

Malawi have never won the regional tournament but have twice managed to get to the final stages. Last year, the Flames won the Cosafa plate after beating Zambia.
