Man kills his stepdaughter

Police in Rumphi district are keeping in custody a 32 year-old man who is suspected of murdering his stepdaughter Oliva Majawa.

According to Vic Khamisi, who is Rumphi Police Public Relations Officer, the murder happened on 28th May 2016 at Bolero in the village of Mtangwanika in Rumphi.

Blood.Khamisi told Malawi24 that the mother to the deceased person went to Rumphi District Hospital with her last born child where she was admitted.

The girl was left with the man Mike Mbewe who is her stepfather.

But Mbewe killed the girl and later dumped her in the hands of a Mrs Vita Gondwe before running away. Gondwe who is boss to the suspect reported the matter to Rumphi Police station.

The suspect was later arrested by the law enforcers. Police said they are yet to find out the reason Mbewe killed his stepdaughter.

Post-mortem revealed that the death was due to strangulation, which means that the child was killed by squeezing her neck and then breaking her throat.

Mike Mbewe will appear in court soon after investigations are done to answer charges of murder. He comes from Namasalima village, Traditional Authority Njema in Mulanje district.
