The ministry of health has urged health workers to report for work in time and knock off at the right time.

Speaking at the opening of Nkhatabay District hospital, minister responsible Peter Kumpalume asked the health workers to emulate his example.

”I am always in office at 07:30 and knock off at 06:00, now there are other health personnel who report to work late and knock off early that must stop forthwith,” said Kumpalume.

Kumpalume also bemoaned the habit of some health workers who steal hospital drugs.

He warned that those found will face the law and this will cause suffering to their families.

However, President Peter Mutharika did not leave the stone unturned as he warned those who steal drugs that they will be locked behind bars. “If you are found stealing drugs you will be fired immediately and face prison walls,” said Mutharika.

He added that stealing drugs is criminal and sinful as other people are dying because of lack of hospital drugs.

He urged Malawians to report to police anyone whom they suspect to have stolen drugs but not to take the law into their hands by beating the person.
