Man jailed for theft

The Nkhotakota First Grade Magistrate court has sentenced Chikondi Chimphepo to 8 months imprisonment with hard labour for stealing K56,000.

CourtAccording to Nkhotakota Police Public Relations Officer Sub-inspector Williams Kaponda, the 18 year-old man gave back the money after he was arrested.

Nonetheless, First Grade Magistrate Fred Juma Chilowetsa sentenced Chimphepo to 8 months imprisonment, saying he had exercised leniency because the suspect returned the money to the owner.

In a related case, the same court has ordered Yosefe M’guda 35, to pay K90,000 or in default to serve 36 months for seriously injuring another person.

If the convict pays the fine, K80, 000 will go to the victim as compensation.

Chimphepo hails from Tambala Village while M’guda hails from Mphonde Village, both villages are in the area Traditional Authority Mphonde in Nkhotakota.
