Up to 15 people have been arrested in connection with the fights that broke up at Likuni Roman Catholic Parish in Lilongwe on Sunday, Malawi Police say.

Malawi24 had reported yesterday that infightings over concerns some grouping withing the church had over the Parish Priest and the main church executive, whom they accused of no cooperation.

However other reports claim that the men behind the row are not Roman Catholic faithfuls who sources claim only wanted to dent the church’s image by causing rows at the church’s main choir.

While information on the main cause of the rows which saw exchange of blows in and outside the church- and also the forcing of the priest to stop the Eucharist celebration remains sketchy, the church has not made any statements at the moment.

According to Lilongwe police Public relations officer, Kingsley Dandaula the arrested are remanded at Lilongwe Police Station and that they will be charged today with conduct likely to cause breach of peace as they appear in court today.
