Alex Sakala is new Club 25 president


Malawi club 25, a grouping of blood donors aged 25 and below, has elected Alex Sakala  as the club’s national president.

During the elections that took place at Ilala Crest lodge in Mzuzu, the club also elected its first ever national committee.

The newly elected committee will run the club for the next two years starting from the 30th March 2016.

In his acceptance speech, the Galaxy reporter said that he will need support from the other club members for the realization of the club’s goals.

“Let me take this opportunity to thank you for the trust and love. I do not take this for granted but rather giving thanks to Almighty Lord for the space.

“I know and you know that Alex Sakala cannot do it alone being a national body theefore, may we continue giving a hand to each other whenever necessary.

“Let me assure you that it’s my desire to work tirelessly with you guys for the benefit of the nation through blood donors’ mobilization.  Again, let’s work together as a team as this is the only stepping stone,” he said.

Alex Chikondi Kaunda was ushered in as the club’s vice president, whereas the position of the secretary general went to Francis Ngwira.

Nice Chikuse was voted in as executive- health promotion and recreation while Daud Shaibu was voted to the position of executive- peer education and recruitment.

Club 25 is a club of young blood donors aged between 16 and 25 who pledge to donate at least 25 units of blood in their life time.


The club is a branch of Blood Donors Association of Malawi (BDAM) and the Malawi Blood Transfusion Service (MBTs) acts as the secretariat for the association.

The main aim of the club is to ensure that the youths remain eligible and safe blood donors by encouraging them to lead a healthy lifestyle since young people play a vital role in HIV/AIDS prevention and control strategies as peer educators.
