Kamoto: new Airtel MD

The first Malawian to lead Airtel Malawi was Vice President Saulos Chilima who left the role in 2014 to join politics.

Kamoto’s appointment is with effect from March 1, 2016 and in a statement the company says it hopes he will consolidate the gains Airtel has made.

“Charles will continue to build on his good work to innovate winning customer solutions for Malawi, consolidate the gains made in defending our revenue market share and build external stakeholder relations.

“I would like to congratulate Charles on his well-deserved appointment and wish him every success in his new role,” Christian de Faria, Chief Executive Officer for Airtel Africa said.

Kamoto joined Airtel in May 2014 as the chief commercial officer and the company says during his time in the role he was able to build superior performance capabilities within the commercial function to provide a competitive customer value proposition for Malawi.

Before joining Airtel Malawi, Kamoto worked as chief commercial officer for TNM from January 2011 until May 2014.

He holds a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from the Polytechnic, a constituent college of the University of Malawi and an MBA from the Eastern and Southern African Management Institute (ESAMI).
