Messenger arrested for stealing drugs

A messenger working for Pharmacy, Medicines and Poisons Board in Lilongwe is in police custody after he was found with drugs valued at MK1, 356,080.00. arrested

Lilongwe Spokesperson Kingsley Dandaula identified the messenger as Charles Kumpita, 49, and said he stole the medicines between the months of July to December 2015 at the Central Medical Stores.

He said the stolen medicine include; Amoxycillin 250mg capsules, Doxycycline 250 mg, Chlorampenical 250 mg, Indometharin 25 mg, Quinine 300mg, Metronidazole 200mg Tablets and Evythromycin.

Meanwhile, the suspect is Police custody pending court appearance and he is expected to answer charges of Theft by Public Servant in accordance with Section 283 (1) of the penal code.

Kumpita hails from Maulana village in the area of Traditional Authority Kapeni in Blantyre.
