Rapist who infected victim with STIs jailed for 12 years

The Magistrate Court in Lilongwe last week sentenced a 29 year-old Malawian man to 12 years in jail for forcing himself on a minor and infecting her with sexually transmitted infections (STIS).

According to police, the evil rapist also damaged the victim’s private parts from the inside such that she might not be able to give birth.

CourtLilongwe police deputy spokesperson, Constable Margret Selemani, identified the convict as Kumbukani Semeon, 29, from Chimphangu village T/A Malili in Lilongwe.

“The convict who is a carpenter went to the victim’s house to fix some doors and while there he proposed to the victim but the proposal was denied,” Selemani said.

The convict further proposed to the victim and threatened to use gule wamkulu to beat her up if she continued to deny him. Due to the threat, the minor accepted the proposal and that is when the wicked carpenter raped her.

After some weeks, the victim started complaining of headache and abdominal pains and was taken to a private clinic where she was tested for malaria but she was not found with any disease.

Her condition however got worse and she was taken to Mtengowanthenga Catholic Hospital where she was diagnosed with sexually transmitted infections (STIS) and that is when she revealed that she had been defiled.

The matter was reported to police who arrested the convict.

The victim was later referred to Bwaila hospital where she was admitted for a month.

During mitigation in court, the convict asked for a reasonable punishment considering that he looks after his old grandmother but Senior Resident Magistrate Anthony Kapaswiche passed the stiffer judgment bearing in mind the condition of the victim and the increase in defilement cases in the district.
