Police in Dowa stopped a Malawian genius from test flying a helicopter he has built saying it possess risks for people in the area.
The man identified as Felix Kambwiri who lives in Madisi in the district designed and built his own helicopter.
According to a source, when Kambwiri was conducting trial flights, police officers saw him and told him to stop, saying the trial will be dangerous for residents in the area.
But a large group of officers later went to the man’s residence and lifted all restrictions.
The issue however, has exasperated Facebook users who suggested that Kambwiri should be given the green light to test the helicopter with full support from government.
“What the government could have done is supporting him by telling him to fly the plane on Lake Malawi with full rescue team behind him. Who knows our president could have been using the same plane during these hard economic times,” wrote Mwanga Khefu.
Others suggested that authorities are trying to stifle Kambwiri’s talent because he is a Malawian.
“Akanakhala wobwera kapena titi mzungu nde kukadakhala maliwiro kukaonelera [if he had been a foreigner or say a white man, Malawians would have rushed to the area to admire the plane] infact with full rescue team but because he is a guy from a local trading centre then it’s an issue. Wake up Malawi,” said Eistern Juma Phiri.
