Malawi24 has been tipped that danger is looming in the opposition Malawi Congress Party following the souring of the relationship between party President Lazarus Chakwera and spokesperson Jessie Kabwila.
According to sources, Chakwera has not been seeing eye to eye with the party spokesperson following reports that she has been supporting renegade groups.
“Kabwila thinks that Chakwera is undemocratic and it is because of this that trouble has started,” a source told Malawi24.
Another source told this publication that Chakwera has since schemed Kabwila’s fall and was only waiting for the opportune time to fully relinquish her of the duties she had.
According to the source, the MCP leader had decided to make Kabwila disappear from the scene slowly.
“The thing is that Chakwera cannot just fire Kabwila, however it will be done slowly and systematically. The first thing has been the appointment of a Public Relations officer, Alekeni Menyani,” said our source.
Meanwhile the Malawi Congress Party seems lost over its media strategy as it has Jessie Kabwila and Alekeni Menyani all acting as spokespersons of the party.
“It’s you in the media who are still talking to Kabwila on matters pertaining to MCP, we the insiders know that Menyani is our official voice,” a source said.
In a recent revelation of the fallout, Kabwila faulted her own party for suspending members that were critical of Chakwera.
