The magistrate court in Malawi’s northern region city of Mzuzu has ruled that 27 year-old Daniel Mbukwa must rot in jail for 21 years with hard labour for defiling a six year-old girl in Gesha Township in the outskirts of the city.

State prosecutors told the court that the rapist dragged the girl into his house and forced himself on her. After doing so he left the girl severely hemorrhaging from her private parts and when people asked the victimized girl, she named the convict.

arrestedThe case was reported to Police who later nabbed the rapist on charges of defilement which is contrary to section 138 of the penal code. He pleaded guilty to the offence and the presiding magistrate Taxes Masoampambi sentenced him to 21 years imprisonment with hard labor.

According to the magistrate, he did so to send a warning to potential offenders.

Commenting on the sentence, Police publicist for Mzuzu, Martine Bwanali, applauded the court for such a stiff punishment. He said this will indeed act as a warning to other aspiring criminals hence reducing crimes in the country.

“As police we feel such sentences must be maintained because criminals will now become scared thus crimes may reduce in the country,” he said.

Malawi24 understands that the convict is a married man with two children to his credit. He hails from Traditional Authority Kilipula in Karonga district.
