A first half brace from Mike Mkwate and a second half volley from Godfrey Masonda inspired Malawi super rookies Fisd Wizards to a comfortable 3-0 victory over fellow relegation battlers Dedza Young Soccer in a league match played at Kamuzu Stadium on Saturday.

It was a match full of tempers as Dedza coach, Millias Pofera, together with his assistants were given marching orders following a disagreement with the fourth official.

17 minutes into the match, it was 1-0 in favour of Peter Mponda’s boys. An exchange of passes between Rafiq Namwera, Ernest Tambe, Isaac Mwale and Thuso Paipi released Mkwate who made a cool finish past Dedza’s shot-stopper Kingsley Phiri.

The visitors tried their level best to find the leveller through Amadu Makawa, Jussab Mpachika and Henry Misinjo but Wizards’ defence was too good to be unlocked.

The hosts then doubled their lead in a similar fashion to the first goal as Mkwate, who was named man of the match, got the ball before slotting past Phiri to make it 2-0.

Come second half, it was rather a dancing time for Mponda’s boys as they were able to make more than 17 passes inside Dedza’s half though they failed to finish when in front of goal.

The visitors were below par as they created fewer chances than expected. Second half substitute, Masonda, then sealed the victory with a stunning volley when Young Soccer’s defence was caught napping again.

Mkwate almost scored a hat trick but his thumping header was deflected for a corner and after 90 minutes of play, it ended 3- 0 in favour of Wizards.

Speaking to the media after the final whistle, Mponda said his boys will keep on fighting.

“We were playing a good side today but we planned very well and it has worked. We won’t stop fighting till the end of the season. We will play Big Bullets and Mighty Wanderers but we are not afraid, we will prepare very well before meeting the giants,” said Mponda.

His opposite number, Pofera, conceded defeat but had no kind words for the men in black.

Despite winning their fourth game of the season, Wizards are still stuck on position 15 with 21 points and if they are to survive, they must collect maximum points in their remaining games.
