Since President Peter Mutharika appointed Fiona Kalemba as Clerk of Parliament (CoP), there has been controversy surrounding the appointment and now some members of Malawi Congress Party (MCP) and People’s Party (PP) are looking for a judge to grant them an injunction to stop Kalemba’s swearing in.
The members are Enoch Chihana, Harry Mkandawire and Kamlepo Kalua of the PP and Peter Chankhwantha of MCP.
However, the business committee of Parliament headed by leader of opposition Lazarus Chakwera conducted a meeting on Thursday during a Parliament tea break to introduce Kalemba.
Chakwera was pleased with the appointment of the new clerk as he said Kalemba is a qualified legal practitioner and she is suitable for the position.
The four members who are against the appointment of the new clerk of parliament are opting for retired Judge Maxion Mkandawire to be sworn in as a new clerk of parliament and have went as far as looking for a specific judge in Mzuzu to quicken the injunction.

MCP of to day, chakwera kabwila MCP kkkkkkkk! This is a party of blind bats. The panel selected three people and handed them to the president to choose and apoint one out of the three for the job. According to the panel, all were fit for the job regardless of where they come from. Even if I were the president, I would not just just from the pool of three but rather go through their attributes and select one with vast experience of the job in question. All the procedures were followed and I wonder what this noise is all about. Musamuyese president, afterall, there is a very big gap between you and him in all spheres of life and leadership. Why don’t you focus on other equally important issues of national interest? You can cry and drain all the water from your eyes but still Malawi will never sympathise with MCP or PP to the point of giving them powers to rule this country again. There will be no such time for you guys hence stop whinning!
