Flames start against Sudan on Monday.

Mtawali was speaking at Kamuzu International airport before the Flames departed for Ethiopia. The Flames mentor also said that the matches at the Cecafa will also be used in building up his team.

“Of course, we will use the tournament to prepare for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations as well as continue with the rebuilding drive,” said Mtawali.

However, the Flames coach was quick to point out that the team will also fight for honours at the Cecafa senior challenge tournament.

“We will not only use the matches for our preparations for the Afcon games but we will also fight for honours at the tournament,” he said.

The Malawi national team is paired in a group comprising Sudan, South Sudan and Djibouti. The Flames first game at the tournament will be against Sudan on Monday and kick off time will be 1:30 PM.
