Officials at Malawi’s Kasungu municipality have revealed that the fire that gutted the market and bus depot early October has prevented them from collecting K5 million from vendors.
According to Kasungu municipality spokesperson Martin Kadyakapita, authorities failed to collect money from vendors and bus tickets in the month of October.
Kadyakapita further said economic challenges have rocked the council and has led to the delay of salaries to employees.
He disclosed that fire brigades arrived late at market due to a faulty fire extinguishing engine.
Meanwhile the council is yet to purchase spare parts from Germany to repair the extinguisher engine.
