Malawi Congress Party (MCP) Secretary General Richard Chimwendo Banda has responded to a resignation rumour with a defiant message, insisting he has no plans to leave his position.
A purported resignation letter bearing his name has been circulating on social media, prompting Chimwendo Banda to publicly dismiss it as fake.
In a statement posted on his Facebook page on Monday, Chimwendo Banda said he had never considered resigning and used a colourful expression to emphasise his determination to remain in office.
“A resignation letter is circulating, but this is fake. I have never thought of resigning, and I will not resign even if a goat tears it apart,” he said.
His response comes amid reports of disagreements within MCP, with some party members reportedly questioning aspects of the current leadership.
Despite the speculation, Chimwendo Banda has maintained that he remains firmly in his position and will continue working to strengthen the party.
His quick response has also drawn praise from some MCP supporters, who say clarifying the matter early will help prevent the rumour from creating unnecessary confusion among party members.
