Barista

Build Africa is Malawi’s Megastore brand providing a wide range of Hardware and Homeware supplies.

We are requiring the services of a fully qualified and competent Barista.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Prepare and serve coffee, espresso-based drinks, teas and other beverages to company standards.
2. Operate coffee machines, grinders and other café equipment safely and efficiently.
3. Greet customers warmly, take orders accurately, and handle payments.
4. Maintain cleanliness of the coffee bar, equipment and seating areas.
5. Monitor stock levels and assist with restocking supplies.
6. Follow food safety, hygiene and health and safety standards at all times.
7. Handle customer queries and resolve minor complaints professionally.
8. Support team members during busy periods to ensure efficient service.
9. Open and close the café according to operational procedures.

SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES:

1. Strong customer service and communication skills.
2. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
3. Attention to detail and consistency in drink preparation.
4. Basic cash-handling and POS system skills.
5. Team-oriented with a positive attitude.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

1. 2 years previous barista or hospitality experience preferred.
2. Knowledge of coffee preparation and beverage presentation.
3. Food safety or hygiene certification is a plus.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

1. Shift work including weekends and public holidays.
2. Standing for extended periods.
3. Fast-paced café environment.
