Bhima Ndalama, Councillor for Msambagalu ward, Luchenza constituency has written to President Peter Mutharika, expressing concerns over the management of the Constituency Development Fund (CDF).

Ndalama has expressed his worry on his official Facebook page, highlighting that despite the significant increase in CDF allocation from MK250 million to MK5 billion per constituency, there are worrying trends of mismanagement.

He further recalls the President’s campaign promises of grassroots development and direct benefits for villagers, but notes that some MPs are treating the fund as personal money, causing tension in constituencies.

The letter suggests strengthening oversight by having the Office of the President and Cabinet (OPC) supervise the fund, with MPs and councillors proposing projects for approval. He has also recommended direct payments from the President’s office to ensure transparency and accountability.

Ndalama expresses concern over the strained relations between councillors and MPs, citing inadequate platforms for councillors to voice concerns, and urges the President to intervene for the sake of transparency, unity, and development.
