Police in Salima have arrested eight people, including two women, during a Saturday operation targeting criminal activities in the district.
According to Rebecca Ndiwate, public relations officer for the Malawi Police Service in the district, the arrests were made on March 7, 2026, during a simultaneous operation aimed at restoring sanity in the area.
Six of the suspects were arrested at Mikute in Sengabay after being found in possession of 551 twists of loose cannabis sativa without a permit.
The suspects have been identified as Noah Ndabwelera, 26; Muhammad Kasim, 20; Kesten Katula, 19; Ekilon Fodya, 36; Edward Kamowa, 48; and Christopher John, 39.Meanwhile, police also arrested Victoria Nazombe and Tiyamike Aspolo for allegedly gambling at Mwambi Village under Traditional Authority Maganga.
Ndiwate said the suspects will appear in court soon to answer charges related to the offences.
She added that police will continue conducting operations to maintain law and order in the district.
Police have since assured residents of tight security as efforts to curb crime continue.
