President Arthur Peter Mutharika and the First Lady today (Sunday) joined the global community in commemorating International Women’s Day, calling for renewed efforts to empower women and ensure that every girl in Malawi has the opportunity to achieve her dreams.

In a message shared on his official Facebook page, Mutharika said the day is dedicated to honouring and celebrating the excellence, resilience, and achievements of women across Malawi and the world.

He said the commemoration also provides an opportunity to recognise the critical role women play in national development.

The President described women as the heartbeat of the nation whose efforts continue to drive progress in various sectors of society.

He cited women working as farmers, teachers, nurses, and community healthcare workers as among those making significant contributions to Malawi’s development.

Mutharika said their dedication and resilience continue to strengthen families, communities, and the country as a whole.

He said the country has made progress in empowering women over the years.

However, the President stressed that commemoration should also serve as a reminder to recommit efforts towards ensuring equal opportunities for women and girls.

He emphasised the need to ensure that every girl in the country is given the chance to achieve her dreams and lead without barriers.

Mutharika also acknowledged the immeasurable contributions women make to the country’s social and economic development.

He said the success and progress of women remain a priority for the nation.

The President concluded his message by wishing women across Malawi a happy International Women’s Day while recognising their continued role in shaping the country’s future.
