UTM has trashed President Peter Mutharika’s fresh rigging allegations saying it is a sign that he will not accept defeat.

Over the weekend, Mutharika claimed that he has reports that a certain party is planning to rig the forthcoming polls.

Speaking at Mponela in Dowa, Mutharika who is also DPP presidential candidate said he understands that a certain party has hired international experts to rig the elections.

Mutharika: made the claim

The president said he has evidence that experts from Nigeria, Greece and Russia are already in the country ahead of the May 21 polls.

“I have heard that someone wants to rig the polls and has brought some experts from Russia, Nigeria and Greece, they want to offset communication. We know where they have placed their machines. But I want to warn you, I know what you are doing and I will go after you,” said Mutharika.

However, reacting to the claims, UTM deputy publicity secretary Leonard Chimbanga said it is surprising that a president like him can stand on podium and make the allegations.

Chimbanga said this is a clear indication that President Mutharika is not ready to accept defeat come 21st May.

He then said Mutharika should be ready to accept defeat after the elections claiming most Malawians have lost trust in the DPP leader and people are no longer voting for him.

“I think this is an indication that he is someone who doesn’t want to accept the outcome of the results when they come out.

“So we are saying no, he must actually be democratic to accept the loss because Malawians have lost confidence in him and his leadership,” said Chimbanga.

He further said Malawians are tired of corruption, unemployment and all the bad things that are going on under the leadership of president Mutharika
