The ruling DPP and the opposition UTM has beaten the Malawi Congress Party on the number of contestants vying for parliamentary seats.
The two beat off main opposition MCP and UDF as well as the PP on number of candidates in the august house race.
However, it is independent aspirants with the highest numbers of all. There are 502 independent aspirants.
The DPP and UTM head into the May polls with 192 and 191 aspirants respectively. This means they both are just one constituency shy of the 193 in Malawi.
The MCP has 189 aspirants with UDF having 125 and the PP at 84.
Aford has 10 aspirants to the elections.
Other parties like Umodzi, Tikonze People’s Movement, and DEPECO have also fielded aspirants.
Two the Constituencies in which MCP has not fielded candidates are Thyolo South West – and Mzimba South West where the incumbent is Khumbo Kachali whose party is in an alliance with the MCP.
The Malawi Electoral Commission has announced of the approved aspirants just after denying a reportedly leaked dossier on the same.
MEC recieved nominations from aspirants earlier this month and was required to publish names of all candidates who have been validly nominated for election as Member of Parliament.
As the elections near, the DPP, UTM, MCP, PP and UDF pose a huge wave of producing a President.
There will be nine presidential aspirants in the May elections.
