Religious leaders have thrown their weight behind President Peter Mutharika as their preferred candidate during 2019 polls.
The leaders under Islamic Commission for Justice and Freedom and Pastors Link have disclosed that Mutharika remains popular among Malawians.
Speaking during a presser in Lilongwe on Monday, Pastors Link General Secretary Felix Gama said Mutharika has delivered what he promised Malawians hence the popularity.
Gama of Harvest Rock Church said Mutharika has achieved a lot in the country as per results of their study they conducted nationwide.
“People are saying the leadership of Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika is focused, we say focused because the time he was talking over we had drought, donors had pulled out their support,” said Gama.
He explained that the Malawi leader has an accommodative government that allows views from other people.
However, the religious leaders’ support comes at a time when some Civil Society Organization (CSOs) have pressed Mutharika on bad governance and corruption.
