Malawi Defence Force (MDF) soldiers have been deployed in various areas in Blantyre following violence that saw the killing of a man on Thursday.

On Friday, MDF soldiers were spotted patrolling areas such as Limbe, Lunzu, Machinjiri Chilomoni and Chileka in order to restore security in the wake of attacks on people suspected of being bloodsuckers.

According to reports, the soldiers are conducting the operation jointly with the police.

On Thursday a mob blocked a road, attacked police officers and burnt to death a person suspected of being a bloodsucker.

Malawi Police Inspector General Lexten Kachama told reporters on Friday that robbers are taking advantage of the rumours to create insecurity.

“The biggest challenge is that thieves and robbers have now taken advantage of the situation and are mounting illegal roadblocks at night in order to harass people,” Kachama said.

The reports of blood suckers which started last month have led to the killing of nine people in the Southern Region.

Districts that have been affected include Blantyre, Mulanje, Nsanje, Phalombe and Chiradzulu.

  9. DPP is the main centre of gravity for this problem. They used Satanics WhatsApp messages and social media for CV assassin their political opponents and sending young and hiring thugs for political advancement. Now people, young are well trained of violence they tested blood and believe that Satanism is their problems combination with watching Nigerians movie. DPP must know all people dying now is squarely to blame. It’s easy to teach people bad and hard to correct it

  10. Security is really needed to ensure that the citizens are self all the time two points for you there Mr President i saw it on Aljazeera news i was worried we going to loose the name as we are the peaceful country in the world

  13. So it is untill you saw violence before soldiers be deployed. This is as administering medicine on dead person, he can’t revive. Be alert to prevent

  14. Its my prayer that those people who brutally murdered an innocent man at Chatha are apprehended and tried in the court of law, what these people did is inhuman

    1. The president at first denied about violence erupted in other parts of the country. The president himself accused the MCP of fuelling the violence and MCP just wants to bring the government into a disrepute. The government is only acting now in a Mampara way after things got out of hand.

    2. Josh Bopa Zgadina i think your hate for the president is clouding your judgement…its not only in malawi wen things get out of hand the army is deployed to calm the situation…..osamangopanga criticise zinthu musakuzisata for the sake of hate….give credit on positive things and criticise where it is necesary

You don’t start from the top to bottom but a viceversa, Think Mr Peter, nowhere in the world things work like that, ngakhale nsabwe timaiswa ndi chara oasti hamala,

  16. I personally believe our so-called leaders are always drinking London Gin and soda water. Isn’t the same government supposed to sends soldiers to stop the killing of people living with albinism, and now the government really sends soldiers to fight with the ghosts

    1. There are no need to send soldiers as if we’ve terrorists in the country. The police can handle the situation, because that’s their job description. Albinos are being killed and the government is their doing nothing, but with these scuffles the government prompted to act.

    2. Death has no excuses, death is death. It doesn’t matter how badly they were killed, who killed who, how good they were killed and who did what. They all face litigation, there maybe charges of defeating the end of justice, attempted murder and murder. They’re all pronounced as killers.

  17. Tione ngati asilikali akowo Pitala atagwire anamapopa akowo! Zikufunika mapemphero amphamvu zinthu zimenezi. Zuchoka kwa Lucifer izi!

  20. This would not happen if people in Mulanje were taken seriously. Now is in Blantyre, then both Police and Army have been deployed as if they are going to a war zone. So Blantyre is more important than Mulanje, the district which feeds Blantyre? Something wrong somewhere .

    1. If you can remember, there was a certain time whereby malawians had to conduct DEMONSTRATIONS in the streets, the same PRESIDENT commanded the soldiers to go there, however, the army COMMANDER insisted that that was the POLICE’S duty coz if they go there all they can do is to kill.

  21. The Munthalika administration is using the military against its own people just because the people are angry that Muntharika is failing to contain the issue of suspected blood suckers. Poor Muntharika, Poor leader.

    1. The president has taken the right step, although it’s a bit late.. Those who are against military deployment, what do you think the president should have done? May be should have left the state house and deal with the killers himself? Think as an adult before commenting

    2. thanks to the president now i can sleep peacefully popanda ozandigogole kut ndituluke ngat sindituluka im behind za magaz…its just phee here palibe ndikumva ogenda ma galimoto ngat zulo

    3. koma anthu enanu mulibe pa bwino chomwe walakwisa peter ndicha basi kungozolowela kususa basi achita bwino kwambili peter okonda anthu ake

    4. it looks like there are some fools who are still supporting this trash of a President malawi as anation has become a popcorn in the eyes of sorrounding nations

    5. @ Tsalina the power is in your hands come 2019 yo choice kumusintha, for now he is da president and ine i support him ndithu, vuto lake u rush to utter hate speech but iweyo what have u done to help out, vuto a Malawi chilichose timayang’ana president olo ufa ukakuthera u blame HE eti,? think twice

    1. I think you need to undergo a psychiatric evaluation. Let me give a little bit of the soldiers. A part of every serviceman’s Oath is to protect Malawi as a country against all enemies, both domestic and foreign. Of course, it’s Malawi that defines who the enemy is and therefore who servicemen will will be fighting. It is therefore the duty of those in the military to fight the designated enemies of Malawi and to attempt to defeat them as completely as the military’s mission states. This is true even if the service personnel disagree that these people are really an enemy of Malawi. They have to follow Orders. The police are the one’s brings peace and Order in the country. Before you call someone mbuli you’ve to understand yourself first as to say, do I know anything about responsibilities and duties of a soldier.

    2. Apolisi mmawaderera nde mmafuna boma lichite nanu motani mbamva zoipisa dziko lathu inu? MDF yangobwera pano kuli zii without hearing ma rumours opeperao. Soldiers are a high end source of national security, peace and stability i guess. Azibwerabwera

    3. If the police can’t do their job then it’s in the interest of the people for them to get fired. If soldiers are stabilizing the country, then send them to the Cash Gate scandal to curb the situation too

    1. Those that hest do fall, williamshakespear, hast decisions are destractive.for instance many innocent people has been burnt to death just because some of the villagers act hastly leading to the death of innocent men,yet none if am not mistaken has died because he has been sucked.NB its really true that the blood suckers are in our mist,

  22. Zikuchikazi zandikwana pano ndikudya nsima yosapsya ati kazio akuthamangila paja kukagona paja azache azipidapida .ndie asilikal inu muchenjele pajapo ndikangomvapo mwakut ndiii

  23. As far as I recommend the president for this but on the other hand I am very worried with the same president for taking time to act on every important issues in this country…almost 9 people have died it’s when u are acting now

    1. The president is the commander of Malawi defense force so if u talk about protocol to be the reason what makes 9 people to be killed by mob then I disagree with u
