Sidik Mia whom Malawi Congress Party (MCP) president Lazarus Chakwera is eyeing to pick as presidential runningmate for the 2019 elections met MCP members in Nsanje on Sunday.

Although Mia is yet to announce officially to the public that he is now an MCP member, the business tycoon cum-politician held an indoor meeting with MCP members at Bangula’s Aska Motel in Nsanje.

Among others, the meeting was aimed at creating party structures in readiness for the October 17 by-lections in Nsanje Lalanje.

On this day, the hall was filled to the brim with multitudes of ecstatic leaders who chanted songs in Mia’s name and the Malawi Congress Party as he addressed the gathering.

Mia’s coming to the Lower Shire comes few days after wife to former Legislator for Nsanje Lalanje Sam Ganda showed interest to contest in the by-elections.

According to reports that Malawi24 has gathered, Lawrence Sitolo, who came second with only few votes against Sam Ganda during the 2014 polls will represent Malawi Congress Party in the forthcoming by-elections.

However, political commentators in the country say Mia’s joining of MCP will
mean that the old party is serious in its rebuilding exercise,
a development which can make it stand a realistic chance of
winning the 2019 elections.

Recently, Afrobarometer released findings of its survey which indicated that MCP, with Chakwera as its leader, would win the Malawi presidency if elections were to be conducted at the time the survey was conducted.
