With just under two years remaining before Malawi goes to polls, Umodzi Party President John Chisi has confirmed his interest to contest for the office of the first citizen of this country.

Chisi who lost miserably during 2014 elections says he wants to bring change to this country which is being ruled by Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) under President Peter Mutharika’s leadership.

He however said he will first seek his party’s mandate at a convention.

“Perhaps due to democracy during the convention I will not win but I will make sure that I should do enough campaign so that my fellow members shall endorse me to represent them during the elections,” he told local media.

The Umodzi Party leader added by urging Malawians to vote for his party during the elections so as to see a change from four previous governments.

“Our vision is totally different from others, we shall make sure that Malawians should see a change once voted into power,” he concluded.

Chisi’s statement has come at a time when rumours have been circulating on social media that he wants his party to enter into a coalition with DPP so as to accumulate more votes during the forthcoming elections.
