The Electoral Commission in Tanzania has given back to financially prudent President John Pombe Magufuli money amounting to $5 million, the BBC has reported.

According to the report, the EC in Tanzania said they had an excess amount of money which they did not use in the elections and, therefore, it could be used by the country for some other developments.

The EC made it clear to Magufuli that having a surplus did not mean that they marred the elections but they were austere and prudent in their use of money.

It is understood that Magufuli thanked them for the patriotism before ruling that the money be used for the construction of offices for the Electoral Commission.

However, in Malawi the Electoral Commission is indebted and some of their properties have been impounded over failure to settle debts accrued in the 2014 elections which were marred by various irregularities

Well, Venezuela has a sugar crisis same as Tanzania, Nigeria is facing a tomato crisis, while Ghana is troubled with a water shortage and France is dealing with rail workers’ strike over labour laws such as those on resting times. Incidently Malawi is facing a hunger crisis due to food shortages as a result of water scarcity caused by drought.

In other news many Tanzanians seem to be celebrating the new government budget going by current news reports.

  5. Tanzania has really shown the whole world including selfish Malawians in high position of govt that transparency is possible. Giving back that huge amount to the govt while our own MEC here is being hang on the neck by debts, mpaka kumalandilidwa katundu, very shameful indeed.
