The Midima senior resident magistrate court has sentenced a burglar to seven years in prison with hard labour for house breaking and theft.
According to Assistant Public Relations Officer for Limbe police station Widson Nhlane, on 4 May this year the 22 year-old man, Masulani Samson, broke into the house of a Kanjedza resident and stole items worth K800,000,00.
“The suspect broke into the house in Kanjedza and stole items worth 8 hundred thousand kwacha and the matter was reported to Limbe police station,” said Nhlane.
He added that after investigations, police managed to arrest the suspect and the recovered items which have since been given back to the owner.
In court, the stolen items were presented as exhibition and the suspect pleaded guilty to charges of house breaking which is contrary to section 309 of the penal code and theft which is contrary to section 278 of the penal code.
Magistrate Makhalila slapped Samson with a five year jail term with hard labour for burglary and two years for theft, the sentences will run concurrently.
Samson hails from Ndongo village T/A Nsabwe in Thyolo district.
