One of the political analysts in the country says there is no need for all Members of Parliament (MPs) to be residing in Lilongwe as other people earlier suggested.

MPs could live anywhere.

Recently, some analysts proposed that the MPs should be staying in Lilongwe so that government should not be spending a lot of money by giving them accommodation allowances when there is a parliamentary session.

But the political analyst, Latin Matenje, said the call is reasonable in an economic point of view but in a democratic society it is wrong.

“The call is valid economically but a democratic society it is invalid as everyone has the right to stay where they please,” said Matenje.

He added that if the legislators move to Lilongwe, people would be deprived of regularly meeting their representatives hence the constituents will fail to deliver their grievances.
