One arrested in Joyce Banda’s house robbery

There is just one arrest made after unknown thieves broke into the house of ex Malawi President Joyce Banda in Nkhatabay District last night, police say.

Last night, thieves broke into the house where they among other things went away with sound equipment, clothing, bed sheets and culinary utensils.

According to Nkhatabay police publicist, Ignatius Esau the law enforcers have only questioned the place’s guard identified as Numeri Mwale.

Some reports say that the guard was beaten off by the gang believe to be heavily armed and stole at Banda’s private residence.

Meanwhile the law enforcers are on the manhunt for the thieves and they are yet to name all the properties stolen.

This is has come in a series of high profile robberies are daring theieves raided the house of United Democratic Front (UDF) President Atupele Muluzi as well as Malawi’s Vice President Saulos Chilima.

The insecurities have been blamed on lack of the implementation of the shoot to kill policy which had reportedly seen the dwindling of crime during the era of the late Bingu wa Mutharika.
