Man found dead in a river after three days of police search

A 36-year-old man in Bangwe Townhsip in Blantyre has died after drowning in Namatapa River, police say.

Limbe Police spokesperson, Pedzisai Zembeneko has confirmed to Malawi24 about the death of the man and identified him as Maxwell Liziman who was working as a salesman at Moca General Dealers.

Drowning“We received a report from Kapesi who is the owner of Moca General Dealers that his employee has been found floating in Namatapa river in Bangwe after he went missing on the 8th of March,” said Zembeneko.

The Limbe police publicist added that on the 8th of March Liziman knocked off from work and on the following day he did not go to work, that is when the owner of Moca general dealers started looking for his whereabouts.

“Kapesi asked his fellow employees about the whereabouts of the deceased but they all showed ignorance,” Zembeneko said.

Zembeneko further said that Kapesi found the deceased after he heard that a dead body had been found floating in Namatapa River.

He visited the scene where he identified his employee and reported the matter to police.

Meanwhile, the dead body has been taken to Queens Elizabeth Central Hospital where a post-mortem is expected to be carried out on the body.

Liziman hailed from Ntanga village of Traditional Authority Chimwala in Mangochi district.
