Police in Machinga district on Friday arrested a primary school teacher for sexually abusing a Standard 6 learner.
Police in the district confirmed the arrest and identified the suspect as Clement Manolo, 32, who was a teacher at Nampinguja primary school.
Speaking to Malawi24, Machinga police public relations officer Davie Sulumba said they arrested Manolo following a complaint by the victim’s uncle who is also her guardian.
According to Sulumba, on the day of the rape, the uncle to the victim arrived home at 7 p.m. but the 15 year-old was not yet home and neighbours told him she was with Manolo.
When she got back, the uncle questioned her and she revealed that Manolo had raped her. The matter was reported to police who arrested the sex offender.
He is currently behind bars and will appear in court to answer charges of defilement contrary to section 138 of the penal code.
Manolo hails from Safali village in the area of T/A Njema in Mulanje.

Why Malawi law is harsh on teachers only? I am not supporting this act but the thing is other civil servants from various departments must face the same law. You will find that Police men, Agricultural Officers, NGO workers just to meention a few can touch these so called future leaders but community just look at them like nothing bad is happening but if it is a teacher eish its like world war 3.
