CourtA 37 year-old Malawian man has been sentenced to 16 years imprisonment for raping his stepdaughter several times and impregnating her.

Lilongwe Police Public Relations Officer, Kingsley Dandaula, identified the man as Lingisoni Ndelemani.

According to Dandaula, the issue was revealed after the girl’s mother learned that the child is pregnant.

The girl mentioned her stepfather as the one responsible. The matter was reported to Chitedze Police Unit and the law enforcers arrested the rapist.

In court, the rapist pleaded guilty and in mitigation he asked the magistrate to be lenient since he looks after orphans, a wife and his mother who is old.

Senior Resident Anthony Kapaswiche however said such cases are rampant and Ndelemani could have thought of his aged mother and orphans before committing the crime.

The convict hails from Mwase village, Traditional Authority Maliri in Lilongwe.
