Nyamilandu: Requirements are a must.

The Football Association of Malawi (FAM) has disclosed that the club licensing system requirement for all Super League coaches to have a minimum qualification of CAF-B license also applies to assistant coaches.

The football governing body disclosed this at Mpira Village, at Chiwembe in Blantyre.

FAM president Walter Nyamilandu Manda, said sparing the assistants from the set of rules will not meet the intended standards.

“It doesn’t make sense to have an assistant coach who is not meeting the club licensing requirements, an assistant automatically replaces the coach in his absence, so he too must have the CAF-B licence,” Nyamilandu said.

Among coaches who have been demoted are Nyasa Big Bullets’ Mabvuto Lungu and Mighty Be Forward Wanderers’ Eliya Kananji.

However, Bullets general secretary Kelvin Moyo said the club licensing system is sparing the technical directors who are the heads of the technical panel.

“How do you put specifications on the assistant coaches and nothing is being said on the technical directors who lead the coaching teams?” Moyo said.
