Police in Mzimba have arrested a man identified as 55 year-old Godwin Ndhlovu for heartlessly killing his 33 year-old son Joseph Ndhlovu over family wrangles.

Police publicist for the district constable Lingstone Kanjauso confirmed the incident to Malawi24 on Saturday and said the man will appear in court soon to answer murder charges in accordance with section 209 of the penal code.Blood.

He could not shed more light on the matter but only highlighted that the minimum penalty for the offence is life imprisonment with hard labour.

However, close relatives to the suspect told our reporter that on the awful day the man was drunk and began beating his six months pregnant wife severely on grounds that she was not good in bed and incapable of cooking delicious food.

“After his son realized his mother was being hit, he rushed to rescue her. He tried everything possible but his father couldn’t stop beating his pregnant mother,” said Samuel Mlotha, who claimed to be a cousin to the suspect.

He added that after the killer’s son saw that his mother was dying, he just thought that the only way to part the two was slapping his drunken father severely. However, this worsened the situation because his father turned more violent.

“He went and took a hoe handle and hit-hard his son in the head. The son collapsed while bleeding heavily in his nose. But his father, who had gotten more angry, continued to thump him with the hoe handle till he died,” Mlotha added.
His wife reported the matter to villagers and they confirmed the tragedy before alerting the police who responded quickly by arresting the man.

The suspect hails from Inkosi Mzuzukuzuku in Mzimba district.

Related cases are becoming more rampant this year as only this month about four cases have been reported in the country with the recent one being of a child who killed his mother in Mulanje.
