Malawi Police in Ntchisi district have arrested an Agriculture Marketing and Development Corporation (Admarc) official for stealing maize valued at K787,930 from an Admarc depot in the district.

The arrested Admarc official, George Kambwiri, 56, works as unit marketing officer for Msumba Admarc in the district.

ArrestedMalawi24 understands that people around Msumba Admarc had complained to Admarc officials at Mponela that the Admarc unit marketing officer for Msumba was just receiving money from people without giving them their bags of fertilizer.

After receiving the report, an Admarc internal auditor followed up the matter and stock was carried out for both maize and fertilizer where it was discovered that bags of maize worth K787,930 were missing.

The matter was reported to Ntchisi Police Station and on Thursday police arrested the suspect but the maize has not been recovered.

Kambwiri hails from Nankhako Village in the area of Traditional Authority Ntema in Lilongwe.
