The Zomba City Council has asked well-wishers in the country to assist 314 families that were affected by heavy rains in Malawi’s old capital on December 13 in the city.
The plea was brought forward by monitoring and evaluation officer at the council, Blessings Chikoko, after the country’s Department of Disaster Management Affairs (DoDMA) donated several items to the affected families.
Chikoko said the number of residents who were affected by the rainstorm in the district is still increasing.
Speaking during the donation, one of the beneficiaries, Florence Magombo, thanked the department saying the donation is a timely response to their challenges.
The households are meeting a lot of challenges such as shortage of food, and kitchen utensils.
As a response to the challenges, DoDMA donated to each family household two blankets, four plates, a bag of maize, two cups and plastic papers.
The heavy rains also affected a lot of people in other parts of the country such as Dedza, Nkhotakota, and Nkhatabay.
