Mobile service providers, Telekom Networks Malawi (TNM) is under fire as some of its customers in the northern region claim the company is charging them on free data services.

One of the customers, Samuel Mvula told Malawi24 that his credit worth MK200 was deducted even though he was only using free data Facebook.

Another one, Faith Ziba echoed the same sentiments saying that using a TNM dongle is committing suicide.

“I usually log into internet using internet.org which in the past was free of charge but on Wednesday and Thursday I was surprised to learn that they deducted my credit,” said Ziba.

However, Anthony Mzumara, another TNM customer claimed to have forwarded his complaint on the issue to TNM customer care service who promised to rectify the problem but they are yet to do so and now the situation is becoming worse.

“I called customer care and the agent suspected the cause to be technical thus she told me to wait for their help in 24 hours but still we are losing more airtime,” he said.

There was no immediate comment from TNM authorities on the issue.

Malawi24 understands that the founder of Facebook earlier this year announced the introduction of free data services to various countries including Malawi.

The purpose of the move was to give more people access to the internet.

This is the second time customers of the company have complained about the poor services and mysterious loss of their airtime.

Earlier this year, some customers claimed that the company was deducting airtime the moment a subscriber recharged.

The company solved the problem and many are expecting the same miracle to happen this time.
