After Malawi felt the pinch of natural disasters early this year, a group of non-governmental organizations are working together in order to address the devastating effects of the catastrophes.

The floods that Malawi experienced early this year claimed lives and property with Nsanje district being the worst hit by floods.

Floods were as a result of heavy rains this year.

Field Manager for one of the organizations, GO Malawi in Nsanje, Chris Njema, said they are implementing projects which aim at providing support to people in disaster-prone areas.

“We have implemented a project whereby we want to provide support to people in climate vulnerable districts such as Nsanje and Mulanje,” said Njema.

Njema added that they are also implementing disaster risk reduction and early warning programs which involve capacity building activities such as training civil protection committees at district level and village level.

He said that they are supporting communities with equipment like megaphones and this will take place in four Traditional Authorities in Nsanje which are prone to natural disasters and dry spells.
