Mulanje Police arrest five in a sweeping exercise

ArrestedMalawi Police in Mulanje district have arrested five suspected thieves in a sweeping exercise the law enforcers conducted in the district.

Southern Region police deputy spokesperson Widson Nhlane identified the suspects as Kondwani Edward 22, Kenneth Mlaundi 22, Thomasi Adam 22, Elick Samu 24 and Davis Juwawo 30.

The police also recovered items valued at K1.5 million. The items included eight bags of pigeon peas, two solar panels, one car battery and two motor cycles.

“All the items have been identified by their owners and we will give them back” said Nhlane.

The five suspects will answer charges of theft.
