The corruption case involving Malawi’s former President Bakili Muluzi and Lyness Whiskey involving the misappropriation of about K1.7 billion funds from international donors returns in court today in Blantyre.

The last development on the case saw the withdrawal of the application Muluzi made.

He had applied for a constitutional review in which he was asking the Chief Justice to determine whether the MK1.7 billion theft case answering was to be tried as a constitutional matter not criminal.

The case which the ex Malawi leader claims was politically driven by late President Bingu wa Mutharika, whom he was not in terms with was recently in the media as Chief Justice Andrew Nyirenda opted to refer back to the High Court his (Muluzi)  application or a  constitutional review on the corruption case.

For over six years, Muluzi has been answering charges of corruption in which he is accused of squandering public funds amounting to 1.7 billion Kwacha.
