As the country continues to face economic challenges, Malawi is being pushed to find more ways of bringing money into the country and ease pressure on its struggling economy.
The Economics Association of Malawi (ECAMA) has called for a stronger export drive, better organization of high-potential sectors and tighter fiscal discipline to improve economic performance.
The association made the call when its President Dr Bertha Bangara Chikadza, Executive Director Dr Esmie Koriheya Kanyumbu and Senior Economist Lucious Pawa appeared before Parliament’s Budget Committee.
The team presented an independent assessment of the economy and the impact of tax measures introduced by the DPP Administration.
ECAMA also identified some positive developments, including progress in fiscal consolidation and declining inflation.
However, the association said structural constraints continue to weigh on the economy and recommended measures to deepen Malawi’s capital market.
