Karonga District Commissioner (DC) Willard Mwambo has called on journalists in the district to remain united and work closely with council officials in promoting development initiatives.
Mwambo made the remarks on Wednesday during an orientation meeting with journalists in Karonga, which was organised to brief the media on various development projects being implemented by the district council.
He urged journalists to seek information from designated sector heads within the council to ensure accuracy and avoid misleading the public.
“The council has heads of various sectors, including the Public Relations Office, where journalists can access verified information. You should avoid sourcing information outside these offices to prevent the risk of spreading false or inaccurate information,” said Mwambo.
Speaking at the same meeting, Karonga Town Council Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Steve Chima said the council has mobilised funds to implement several development projects, including the installation of street lights in the town’s central business district.
One of the participants, Walughano Lumbira of Radio Voice of Livingstonia, commended the District Commissioner and the Karonga Town Council CEO for organising the engagement meeting.
He said such interactions are important in strengthening relationships between the media and council officials.
