FCB Nyasa Big Bullets will miss the goals, power and match-winning presence of Babatunde Adepoju as the prolific striker brings his time at the People’s Team to an end, but Malawian football may not be closing the door on him just yet.
The Nigerian-born striker has bid farewell to Big Bullets following the expiry of his loan spell, ending a remarkable season in which he guided the club to a second-place league finish and finished as joint top scorer with 15 goals.
Adepoju is returning to his parent club, Venda Sports Academy, popularly known as Venda FC, in South Africa, with his loan deal officially ending on December 31. Despite determined efforts by Big Bullets to extend his stay, the club was unable to keep him for the Castel Cup campaign.
In a heartfelt Facebook message confirming his departure, Adepoju thanked the Big Bullets family for the support he received throughout the 2025 season.
“To a wonderful family, I would like to thank you for your massive support in the 2025 season. We failed to deliver the desired goal; otherwise we have lessons to face next,” he wrote. “Maule, my stay at the People’s Team has come to an end as I will be returning to my club Venda Football Club.”
Adepoju also acknowledged the fans, teammates and management for playing a crucial role in his success, including sharing the Golden Boot award with teammate Chiku.
“I would like to thank the fans, fellow players and management of this club for the support, love and prayers. Your support helped me and Chiku to win the league golden boot award, though it is not enough to give you the league.”
Adepoju departs Big Bullets as one of the most influential players of the season, leaving behind unforgettable goals and the growing belief that his story in Malawian football may still have another chapter.
However, while Bullets supporters will no longer enjoy his goals in domestic competitions, the country may still see him in national colours. Adepoju is in possession of a Malawian National ID, a development that keeps alive the possibility of a future call-up to the Malawi National Football Team.
