Six to battle it out in final presidential debate

Six presidential candidates will battle it out in the third and final 2019 Malawi Presidential Debate slated for tonight.

The debate will involve six candidates who have promised their readiness to participate at the Bingu International Convention Centre (BICC) in Lilongwe this evening.

According to the Chairperson of Taskforce Teresa Ndanga, Dr. Lazarus Chakwera of MCP, Atupele Muluzi, of UDF, Dr. Saulos Chilima of UTM, Professor John Chisi of UP, Peter Kuwani of Mbakuwaku MMD and Reverend Hadwick Kaliya who is an Independent have confirmed their availability.

Ndanga said the debate will be moderated by Reverend Patrick Semphere and will focus on youth related issues including: population growth, opportunities for the youth, private sector development, infrastructure and transportation, climate change and sustainable development.

However, the chairperson said the due to other reasons, the debate will start at 1930 hours, changed from 1800 hours.

She also said that pre-recorded questions from Malawians will be posed to the candidates and the questions have been screened to ensure that they match the topics of the debate.
